Hello to Emptiness

Share your thoughts on grief and mourning with us

How do we handle the emptiness when fellow humans, landscapes, entire species and populations disappear or die? How do we see, feel and reflect the void and how do we resonate with the hole their disappearance leaves with us?
Please share with us.

I never thought Michiko would come back
after she died. But if she did, I knew
it would be as a lady in a long white dress.
It is strange that she has returned
as somebody's dalmatian. I meet
the man walking her on a leash
almost every week. He says good morning
and I stoop down to calm her. He said
once that she was never like that with
other people. Sometimes she is tethered
on their lawn when I go by. If nobody
is around, I sit on the grass. When she
finally quiets, she puts her head in my lap
and we watch each other's eyes as I whisper
in her soft ears. She cares nothing about
the mystery. She likes it best when
I touch her head and tell her small
things about my days and our friends.
That makes her happy the way it always did.

walk to the flowers
check if they’re clean
if they’re alive.
citizens of the alive! attached to bodies
blind, so helpless
**
Atomo dentro – atomo fuori
Ritorno all’atomo
Dentro e fuori
Rinascita fuori. Rinascita fiori.
atomo dentro e fuori.
*
What they don’t tell you is that skin digs holes between bones
What they don’t tell you is that death is inside.
death is outside.
What they don’t tell you is that skin digs holy holes to can grab on to remember
**
Maybe he doesn’t know how to do it.
Because how do you stop breathing? How do you decide to stop breathing?
Finally I am able to cry,
Because I think of death as the end.
But if it weren’t?
How to convince me?
**
!!NOBODY CAN TELL YOU HOW TO DEAL WITH DEATH!!
**
LA MORTE è PARTE DELLA VITA.
LA MORTE è PARTE DELLA VITA.
LA MORTE è PARTE DELLA VITA.
LA MORTE è PARTE DELLA VITA.
LA MORTE è PARTE DELLA VITA.
^Death is a part of life^
**
One hour is three years that touches your skin
Touch touch touch
The touch of the wind is stronger than mine

"Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you,
and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just round the corner.

All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!"
